Job Description
Janitors generally work to clean up after the children, and often the staff, have left the center for the day. Janitors take out trash, clean floors and windows, and may perform simple maintenance tasks. Janitors generally have an assigned list of duties each day that they are responsible for completing. Janitors are often responsible for identifying needed supplies and completing orders for them. Janitors also will note and report repairs that need to be made in the facility.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Sweep, wet, and dry mop, strip, buff and wax floors: participate in stripping floors
Vacuum and shampoo carpet: remove spots and stains from carpets
Clean restroom floors, walls, sinks, urinals and commodes, replace toilet paper, hand soap,, wash and polish fixtures; clean windows and mirrors
Clean and wash cafeteria tables, countertops and fixtures; set-up tables and move andmove furniture; dust furniture, desks, woodwork and blinds; replace light bulbs
Remove paper, trash, and garbage from assigned areas and place in proper containers for disposal
Operate custodial equipment such as buffers, vacuum cleaners, shampoo machines, and water extractor; may work in the laundry and operate laundry equipment
Patrol grounds around building; pick-up paper, cans, trash and debris; clean walkways
Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
Adhere to the district’s safety policies and procedures
Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business
Must be able to perform the essential functions of walking and interacting with students and/or district employees in the specific work site assigned (classroom or office setting)
Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
Other duties as assigned

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required
High School Diploma or GED
Full Background Check
Must be at least 18
